New Year's Eve Soba Service – Welcome the New Year with Japanese Tradition!

Why not spend a special moment with us this New Year’s Eve?

In Japan, it’s a tradition to enjoy toshikoshi soba and welcome the new year by either ringing the Joya no Kane (New Year’s Eve bell) or listening to its solemn chimes. At our restaurant, we’ll be serving warm toshikoshi soba, and just across the street, you can experience ringing the temple bell yourself. It’s the perfect way to refresh your mind and body as you reflect on the year and peacefully welcome the new one.

On the day of the event, we will be serving our special New Year's soba topped with shrimp and kamaboko (fishcake) for just $10. Although it's a smaller portion, it offers a refined and luxurious taste. Supplies are limited, so once we’re sold out, the service will end. No reservations are required, so feel free to stop by!

 

What is New Year's Eve Soba?

New Year's Eve soba is a traditional Japanese dish enjoyed on the last day of the year. The long shape of the noodles symbolizes "longevity," and their easy-to-cut nature represents "cutting off the hardships of the past year." Enjoy this special bowl with the hope for a healthy and happy new year.

 

What is Joya no Kane (New Year's Bell)?

On New Year's Eve in Japan, the Joya no Kane (New Year’s Eve Bell) is rung 108 times. According to Buddhist teachings, this is to cleanse oneself of the 108 earthly desires and welcome the new year with a pure heart. At Sokoji, the gates will open at 10:30 PM, and the bell ringing will begin at 11:00 PM, with visitors having the chance to ring the bell themselves.
